favorite artists of 2009 - part dos

7. Michael Jackson

MJ had an undoubtedly amazing year... minus the whole suddenly dying thing. All the people of the world were singing his song and praises and finally treating him like a human again. We also got to peek into the personal trappings of his batshit loco family, which was interesting/disturbing. Now I can't wait to watch the new Jackson's reality show!

6. La Roux
La Roux totally nailed the aesthetic she was going for while not sounding too unoriginal, which deserves some recognition. She's an awesome character in her own right with her 80's androgyny and her tidal wave hair. She brought retro and nostalgia into the pop scene and hopefully it will open the time portal for more to come through.

5. The Golden Filter
The Golden Filter didn't even put out an entire album this year, but I still think they successfully cemented themselves into the scene and are also incredibly intriguing, mainly due to their mysterious nature. Their video's aren't easy to watch, their lead singer always obscures her face and I don't think anyone even knows what the golden filter is anyway... aka mystery. They have me listening though, and I can't wait for a full release. If that even happens.

The big reveal is coming tomorrow! Aren't you just dying with excitement? Spoiler alert: Animal collective is nowhere to be found.

Thomas demand is an incredible german artist that makes real-life replicas using only paper. the above picture is from his recent oval office recreation. sí, it's all paper. soak it in.

Obviously, everyone has politics on the brain. In honor of this, let me throw some sexual politics your way with an all female playlist (it is a mancession after all).

And, although I do love the ladies I still have no love for maría whorewood. So, don't vote for her in the runoff, kthanks.

fright fiesta

halloween mixes are always a challenge, unless you're me of course. my advice is that you just delete thriller and monster mash from your computer completely. the current trend seems to be creepy ambience so finding songs that fit the bill wasn't hard at all. it's not all scary though. this mix is influenced by candy highs, ultra-themed alcoholic bebidas and obscure costume references.

P.s. you should probably seriously rethink your where the wild things are costume.

¡hace colors!

The bleak, desolate winter is creeping up way faster than I would have ever wanted, but instead of seeing a grayscale I see vibrant colores y shapes. Run with it, gente. Pictured above is jewelry by brokenfab. Below are some videos from alexandliane, a duo of directors from the UK based in Berlin.

Also, here's a video from uffie (that's lit-trally 2 years late) for her song 'pop the glock.' Get inspired:

So, instead of reaching for your aburrido navy peacoat to keep you warm grab a ridiculous sweater (looking at you spliff) and heat up by having a dance party.

today is now - dos

I hope you're ready for a flashback this week, cuz I sure am. Obviously, we're going to the '80s, and if you don't like the sound of that then I don't want to know you. This post is for those who truly appreciate the decade (and no covers, I promise). Everyone nowadías seems to be channeling the carefree-party-all-the-tiempo vibe, and I'm loving it. Love it too.

Vega - Track 6 (I really can't find the name anywhere)
