new jamz, old friends

all these new songs are surfacing from bands that I've missed dearly. It's like unexpectedly receiving a letter from an old friend that you haven't heard from in too long. But they're still alive! and they probably miss you too...

P.S. These songs don't disappoint.

weekend en video

I guess one benefit to being trapped inside all weekend due to shitty weather has been my discovery of some incredible vidéos musica. The first was purely and accident, but I now have somehow stumbled upon an amazing band of chilean hipsters (aka my people). They are Adrianigual, and I challenge you to name a better band from chile. They're not new, but they'll probably blow up soon... but maybe not. At least let them blow you up:

I think this video pretty much sums up grosso hermoso in every way. Maybe I'll commission them to make me a theme song. How much could it cost? 20 pesos? I got that in mi sofá, shit. If you enjoyed that video, then check this out too.

The next is from Miike Snow. Love him or hate him, the video is awesome. Especially when a man shatters into cats. Just watch and you'll get it:

And for the last one... just hold onto your butts. There are many words that I could think to describe this video by The sound of arrows. 'Super gay' may be one, but there's no way you could describe it as 'not magical.' Just embrace it. You've seen all the images in Disney movies anyway:

today is now - cuatro

So we meet again. I've giving you two mixes in one day!?! Que rico. I didn't have a theme in mind for this week, but it appears that all but one are remixes, so... Remix theme! This semana there's a not-so-nuevo track from Miike Snow (spotted on GG this week), Toro y Moi remixes his buddy, Washed Out (!), Memory Tapes does an awesome version of Grum's Heartbeats, and remixes of Health and Au revoir simone (previously posted). This may be the last acceptable time to post about this summer dream team seeing that fall is upon us...

today is now - tres

I know I skipped a week in my 'today is now' mix series, so you can get off my back, ok? I was off galavanting in the wilds of Virginia getting in touch with my orígenes. Where do you factor into all of this? Well, lucky for you I made an insanely large playlist to listen on the 7 hora drive, and these are some that stood out. You can thank my tape player for the last one.

too much of a good cosa

So, it appears that while I was away a ton of awesome shit happened. Everyone is partying like its 1964 with all this Beatles hype (which I don't have a problem with, btdubbs), HEALTH has a new video for their awesome 'Die slow' (see above), the Ratatat/MGMT/Kid Cudi collaboration has surfaced, Neon Indian remixed Au Revoir Simone(!), and there's a teaser for new Golden Filter material. Lurvin' it. Maybe I should take breaks more often? (Don't answer that)

today is now - dos

I hope you're ready for a flashback this week, cuz I sure am. Obviously, we're going to the '80s, and if you don't like the sound of that then I don't want to know you. This post is for those who truly appreciate the decade (and no covers, I promise). Everyone nowadías seems to be channeling the carefree-party-all-the-tiempo vibe, and I'm loving it. Love it too.

Vega - Track 6 (I really can't find the name anywhere)

hate

Hate is a strong word, but it may be appropriate for jay-z's new album. It sucks. end of story. ironically the one song I actually like is about 'loving his haters.' He's old. He's tired. He follows the same formula even when there are extremely talented people on his songs (Kid Cudi, Drake, Luke Steele). At least he appreciates grizzly bear...

I'm expecting a cease and desist on this one.
